Residing in New York City for 10 years, Greg Ruggiero has
emerged as one of the most sought after jazz guitarists in the city. Greg has stylistically run the gambit in the
idiom of jazz music, from complex original compositions to the American
songbook and Swing. His love for the
jazz tradition has led him to perform and learn from some of the great jazz
masters from the 1950′s, 60′s, and 70′s still playing in New York. Currently Ruggiero performs weekly with Duke
Ellington drum legend, Steve Little. Greg
can be seen nearly every night performing as a sideman or leader around the
city. He has performed at many of the
top clubs including Birdland, The Jazz Standard, Smalls, and the Jazz Gallery. He has performed with such artists as Bill
Crow, Michael Kanan, Frank Morgan, Greg Osby, Mark Turner, Jane Monhiet, and
Luisa Sobral. His music has allowed him
to perform in Japan, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Switzerland. As a
leader, Ruggiero has two records on the Fresh Sound/ New Talent label. As side man, he has recorded on over twenty
albums. Greg has recorded on vocalist
Luisa Sobral’s debut record, on Universal Records, saxophonist Logan
Richardson’s “Ethos” for Greg Osby’s Inner Circle Records, and a multitude of
independent releases by numerous artists.
As a guest artist and clinician, he was the featured artist at the
Canjazz Festival in Galicia, Spain. Greg
was also clinician at the Academy of Creative Education in Los Angeles,
California, the Crossties Jazz Festival at Delta State University in Mississippi,
and the University of New Mexico.
Greg has renewed his passion for the jazz standard repertoire, and has devoted much of his time to studying the earliest versions of these works, as well the classic vocal performances of artists such as Billy Holiday, Nat Cole, Frank Sinatra, and Ella Fitzgerald to name a few. Out of this passion, Greg has just released his latest record “My Little One”, a collection of original music set to lyrics. Greg has renewed his passion for the jazz standard repertoire.
Asher Barreras has played bass professionally for the past 10 years and has a degree in jazz performance from the University of North Texas. Asher has toured Europe, lived in Barcelona Spain, recorded and played for several artists and continues to composes new music.
