DAN TRUDELL TRIO
Originally from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Dan studied classical organ from Ruth Matthews at Northern Michigan University from the early age of 12. While attending Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI as a classical organ and tuba major, Dan was smitten with jazz piano and transferred to the famous jazz school at North Texas State where he studied under Dan Haerle. Since then, Dan has resided and performed in the cities of New York, Boston and since the fall of 1990, Chicago.
Dan has drawn attention from jazz critics for both his piano and Hammond Organ work and divides his time evenly between both instruments. Dan was voted "a rising star" in the annual Downbeat Magazine Critics Poll by the nations jazz critics after his recording "The B3 Bombers live at the Green Mill" rose in the national college radio airplay charts.
Dan has been featured at the 25th anniversary Chicago Jazz Fair and the Green Mill in a "Battle of the B3's" with Chicago organist Chris Foreman in a unique setting of two organs on stage. Dan's piano and organ playing have been featured numerous times on the main stage of the Chicago Jazz Festival and has been a sideman and toured with many jazz greats including Benny Golson, Eric Alexander, Jim Rotondi, Aretha Franklin, Diane Carroll, Clark Terry, Von Freeman, Kurt Elling, Doug Lawrence, Roy Hargrove, Don Braden, Ron Carter, Kenny Burrell, Buddy DeFranco, Bobby Broom, Nick Brignola, Matt Wilson, Terrell Stafford, Nicholas Payton, Dennis Irwin, the Harper Brothers, Slide Hampton, Harold Vick, Joe Farnsworth, Jon Faddis, Randy Brecker, Jim Snidero, Joe Magnarelli, Eddie Daniels, Peter Erskine, Carl Fontana, Buddy Guy, and the Joffrey Ballet, amongst others.
Albums he has recorded as a leader or sideman include Jay Brandford's "Seven Point Perspective", Pat Mallingers's "Monday Prayer to Tunkashila”, "The Mike Allemana Organ Trio", his own piano recording "Song of Happiness”, "Doug Lawrence's Street Life”, "Sabertooth Live at the Green Mill”, "The B3 Bombers Live at the Green Mill”, Charlie Harrison and The Chicago Jazz Orchestra's "Keeping My Composure", and Hillary Smith's "No Easy Way."
