Known as the sweetest sounding alto saxophone player in the history of jazz, Paul Desmond was the voice that shaped the sound of the most popular jazz group in the 50’s & 60’s. Colleges all across the country were lit up with the sound of “Take Five”, written by Desmond and to this day credited as the bestselling jazz tune of all time. What may not be so well known is that Desmond’s sound became the sound of a new sub-genre in jazz called West Coast Jazz.
To this day, his soft liquid tone and his lush melodies continue to be the focus of study for any serious alto saxophonist trying to find their place in jazz.
Santa Fe’s own Dave Anderson has been a disciple of Paul Desmond for most of his career. I can’t think of anyone else more suited for the task of representing this legendary stylist than Dave. And judging by the turnout for Dave’s Stan Getz Tribute, tickets will go fast with an early sellout for this concert.

Originally from Tulsa, OK, Dave Anderson started playing clarinet at the age of eleven and was then attracted to the saxophone after hearing Jimmy Dorsey’s “So Rare”. In high school, Dave made the formal switch to saxophone. His major influence was Stan Getz with the release of “Desafinado”.
Dave has called Santa Fe home for the past 47 years. His musical career spans fifty-five years and includes experience
in several musical genres with ensemble, solo work, musical theater, and recording. Besides the saxophone, Dave
plays clarinet, flute, and the Akai EWI 5000 (electronic wind instrument).
Dave has performed with Ella Fitzgerald, Sonny and Cher, Rosemary Clooney, Bob Hope, Glen Campbell, Kim Carnes,
Mel Torme, Chita Rivera, Freda Payne, and Linda Ronstadt as well as the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, the National Flute Association, the Santa Fe Community Orchestra, the National Dance Institute, Santa Fe Pro Musica, SuperSax New Mexico, The Three Faces of Jazz, Time Out for Brubeck, the Santa Fe Women’s Ensemble and the Zia Singers.
