With His Trio and “The Whole Drum Truth”
The youngest brother and sole surviving member of one of most the talented jazz families, The Heath Brothers, jazz drummer Albert “Tootie” Heath will be appearing at SITE Santa Fe as part of the “Jazz at Site” series. In his brilliant career Tootie has played and recorded with Lester Young, John Coltrane, Dexter Gordon and
Sonny Rollins.
This Spring, Tootie received the most prestigious award presented to a jazz artist, the National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Award. A Santa Fe resident for the last eight years, Tootie will be coming straight from a world tour of Denmark and Sweden that began in Los Angeles this August. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to hear a master jazz drummer at the top of his game, while well into his 86th year. This concert will feature Tootie in a trio setting accompanied by Bob Fox - Piano and Colin Deuble - Bass, plus a special appearance of his world renown drum ensemble, “The Whole Drum Truth”. His New Mexico version of this unique ensemble, which features Loren Bienvenu and yours truly, pays tribute to many of the great jazz drummers who left their mart on the history of this great American art form.
