Founded in 2012, The Charlie Christian Project celebrates the music of the Oklahoma-born swing and jazz guitarist, Charlie Christian. Christian was an important early performer on the electric guitar and a key figure in the development of bebop and cool jazz.
The fiery and ground breaking Christian was known for his playing with the Benny Goodman Sextet and Orchestra from August 1939 to June 1941. He was also the house guitarist at Minton’s Playhouse in New York. Although only 25 years old when he died in 1942, Charlie Christian has left an enduring legacy to which this group pays homage.
